The strongest reference is not always the most formal portrait. A characteristic expression, familiar pose or distinctive silhouette can carry more personality. Send a sharp original image rather than a screenshot if available. For multiple people, discuss how much space each face needs; small faces can lose essential detail in a mosaic.
02
Review the likeness before construction.
Brian develops a pixel composition and custom palette, then reviews the proposed portrait with you. Changes to the crop, shadow depth or background can improve recognition without trying to reproduce every tiny detail. Screen previews are design references; the finished work also has cube edges, depth and reflected light.
03
A portrait with a place and a purpose.
A memorial, milestone gift or collector commission deserves its own tone. Explain the occasion and the intended display, including whether the recipient will help approve the image. If a surprise matters, establish who can approve the proof.
Brian hand re-stickers full-size 3×3 cubes with custom decals and assembles the artwork. Size, backing, transport and installation are scoped after the portrait direction is clear. Celebrity and other third-party images require a rights discussion.
YOUR PROJECT
Tell Brian what you have in mind.
Share the subject, approximate dimensions, display location and timing in the existing inquiry form. Mention that your project is an art commission. Brian will discuss the idea, current availability and the appropriate next step before a scope is agreed.
That can be discussed at the design stage. The references need compatible perspective and sufficient detail, and the agreed composition must preserve a convincing likeness at the proposed size.
What should I send first?
Start with the subject or idea, approximate dimensions, a description of the space, your location and desired timing. Brian can explain which reference images or site details will help next.
