Large scale can give a portrait room to breathe, but bigger is not automatically more readable. The first viewing position, surrounding furniture and lighting determine how the composition works. A face viewed across a lobby can use a different crop from one seen beside a lounge chair.
Early design studies should show the whole artwork at the expected viewing distance as well as its individual cube detail.
02
Plan the object before promising the wall.
Full-size cubes have real depth and weight. Discuss the available wall structure, access route, lifting needs and professional installation before final dimensions are set. Multi-panel concepts can be explored where transport or access makes a single large panel impractical; joins and image continuity need deliberate planning.
03
An existing build as a starting reference.
Brian’s completed Prince mosaic demonstrates the material and hand re-stickering technique. It does not establish that every larger size or site is feasible. The new design, cube count, backing and installation approach are assessed for each project.
For a commercial inquiry, include a floor plan or wall dimensions, opening schedule, delivery location and the person coordinating the installation. This allows the artwork to be considered alongside the building rather than as an afterthought.
YOUR PROJECT
Tell Brian what you have in mind.
Share the subject, approximate dimensions, display location and timing in the existing inquiry form. Mention that your project is an art commission. Brian will discuss the idea, current availability and the appropriate next step before a scope is agreed.
A multi-panel arrangement can be considered during design. Overall size, visual joins, access, weight and support must be resolved before a build method is agreed.
What should I send first?
Start with the subject or idea, approximate dimensions, a description of the space, your location and desired timing. Brian can explain which reference images or site details will help next.
