01

A portrait you experience at two distances.

Step back and the separate squares become a recognizable face. Move closer and the cube edges, individual decals and physical depth become part of the artwork. This relationship between image and object is central to Brian’s approach. A successful design considers both the close view and the place where a visitor first sees the whole portrait.

02

Custom color, applied one cube at a time.

Brian does not solve cubes into factory-color combinations to make these artworks. He approves the source image, develops a pixel mosaic and builds its exact palette. Original full-size 3×3 cubes are individually re-stickered by hand with custom color-matched decals, then assembled into the finished piece.

This makes skin tones, shadows and distinctive subject colors part of the design rather than forcing the portrait into the standard six-color palette.

03

Start with a real piece, then imagine your own.

The Prince case study documents the completed portrait, physical cube detail, Bemo signature and Brian working on the mosaic. It is the best starting point for understanding the technique. A new project begins with its own source image, scale and viewing conditions.

Backing and mounting are developed for the actual piece. Larger works require early discussion of weight, access, wall construction and professional installation responsibilities.

Questions about your artwork

Is this a print made to look like cubes?

No. Brian’s physical cube mosaics use original full-size 3×3 Rubik’s Cubes, hand re-stickered with custom colors. Digital design previews are part of planning and are distinct from the finished object.

What should I send first?

Start with the subject or idea, approximate dimensions, a description of the space, your location and desired timing. Brian can explain which reference images or site details will help next.

Independent artwork by Brian Bemo. No affiliation with or endorsement by depicted artists, estates or brands is implied. Commercial and room mockups are concepts where labeled.
